The alleged crime kingpin and businessman, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala has been subpoenaed to appear before the Madlanga Commission.
He is expected to appear in court next Tuesday, 7 July.
This comes a day after the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court rejected his initial plea deal with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Under the original agreement, negotiated between prosecutors and Matlala, he would have received an effective eight-year prison sentence and would have been excused from appearing before the commission of inquiry.
The NPA said Matlala has until 13 July 2026 to decide whether to accept the revised plea agreement, which would see him serve an effective 12-year prison sentence.
Previously, Matlala turned state witness and pleaded guilty to fraud, corruption and money laundering charges linked to a R228 million SAPS tender.
