A New Generation of Agripreneurs
In the heart of southern Malawi, Ndevu Farm is redefining small-scale agribusiness by integrating technology, sustainability, and youth leadership. Founded by Catherine Maseko, a Malawian entrepreneur and former agronomy student, Ndevu Fram specializes in climate-smart farming, high-value crops, and agricultural training, building a model that’s both profitable and community focused.
From Subsistence to Agribusiness
In 2019, Catherine launched Ndevu Farm with just half hectare of land. Today, the farm spans over 30 hectares and produces chili, paprika, peanuts, and macadamia nuts, crops with strong local and export potential.
What sets Ndevu apart is its focus on value addition. The farm produces its own chili and peanut products, packaged them with appealing branding, and supplies local supermarkets and wholesalers. This move has significantly increased profit margins while providing customers with high-quality, homegrown alternatives to imports.
Recognition and Expansion
Ndevu Farm was a finalist in the 2024 Agripreneur Africa Awards and has been featured by organizations like AGRA and the UNDP for its innovative model. Catherine plans to expand into processing peanut butter and chili sauces for export under a new brand “Ndevu Naturals”
With increased demand from urban markers and diaspora communities, the farm’s next phase includes digital marketing, an e-commerce store, and regional supply chain partnerships.
Planting Seeds for Malawi’s Future
Ndevu Farm exemplifies what’s possible when agriculture is treated as a business and not just subsistence. Through local innovation, community empowerment, and climate resilience, this Malawian enterprise is helping to transform rural livelihoods and inspire a generation of agri-leaders across Africa.
